URBAN DESIGN - MOUNT PLEASANT, LONDON
An alternative vision and master plan that provides a balance of high density development, high-quality urban environment considering the needs and quality of the ‘communities’ and surrounding neighbourhoods. Contributing to London’s housing needs through an understanding of the urban scale, types, and character of the surrounding area.
OUR SOLUTION - THE COMBINATION
This was another group project, in which we were asked to create two alternative solutions which would then inform our third and final design solution.
The key strategy for the designs had to consider the four key areas opposite. The urban nature of the site must respond to the needs of both families and an ageing population. Open up new walkable and aesthetically pleasing walking routes which complement the Super Cycle Highway which runs North-South through the site. Ensure the needs of both the local community and the wider socio-urban context be at its heart and easily located through various methods of engagement. And finally, the landscape throughout the site had to be easy to navigate and offer different scenarios of engagement depending on the age of the person using it.
